Clients often ask me about group fitness classes and say things like, “I love group classes because they are fun and motivate me to work out, but I am afraid that I will get hurt.”
Group fitness classes can be a great way to build a community around exercise, but it is important to understand the principles of good mechanics and how to apply them to your own body in order to minimize injury risk.
Check out my beginner, intermediate and advanced online programs for more information about proper biomechanics and fundamental strength.
I would also recommend approaching certain fitness classes with caution if they ask you to perform high repetition exercises to failure because injury risk increases with fatigue, even with good form.
